Give your dog a head start, while you focus on your day

Life is busy and training can be hard to stay consistent with when you’re juggling work, family and everything else. Foundations First is a trainer-led training walk package where I work 1:1 with your dog (out and about, and where needed at home) to build the skills that make everyday life easier - then I show you how to maintain it.

This isn’t just exercise. Your dog will still get time to sniff, toilet and decompress… but every session has a purpose: calm behaviour, better choices, and real-life reliability.

What the Foundations First package offers

This service is ideal for owners who want genuine progress, but don’t have the time (or headspace) to train consistently.  Each session is tailored to your dog’s needs - whether we’re building basic manners, confidence, calmness around distractions  or strengthening real life skills like recall and lead walking.

Think of it as:  I do the foundations with your dog, you get a clear handover plan so the progress sticks at home

What your dog will learn

At home

 - Settling and switching off (without constant input)  - Calm behaviour around everyday movement and noise
- Better doorway manners (waiting, not rushing)
- Confidence with handling routines (where appropriate)
- Car skills (getting in/out calmly, loading routines)

Out and about

- Loose lead foundations (calm walking, less pulling)
- Recall foundations
- Calm observation + disengagement around dogs/people
- Confidence around novelty (sounds, traffic, bikes, busy areas)
- Real life settle skills (e.g  pubs/cafés if that’s a goal)

Optional Life Skills (available for suitable dogs):

- Retrieving dropped items
- Finding named items (keys/phone)
- Toy tidy / closing doors
- Loading / unloading washing machine
- Targeting behaviours (useful for cooperative care and independence)

How it works

Tailored training sessions

I collect your dog and take them out for structured training walks (and home based practice where needed). Training is matched to your dog’s age, temperament, motivation and goals.

Progress you can actually follow

You’ll receive video updates so you know what we’re building and how to keep it going between sessions.

Owner handover (so it lasts)

Near the end of your package, we’ll schedule a handover session (in person or online) so you can maintain the skills and understand the “why” behind the work.

Flexible packages

Choose 5, 10 or 20 sessions depending on your dog and your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each session includes at least 60 minutes of structured walk + training.

No, this is a trainer-led training walk. Your dog will still get to sniff, toilet and decompress, but every session has a clear plan behind it (calmness, focus, lead skills, recall foundations, confidence, neutrality around distractions).

Not loads. The point of this package is that I build the foundations with your dog, then I give you a simple handover plan so you can maintain it without feeling overwhelmed.

Small, realistic habits > big complicated schedules.

I can’t ethically promise instant results - behaviour depends on the dog, the environment and what’s reinforced day to day. What I can promise is a clear plan, skilled training and measurable progress based on your dog’s starting point.

It depends on the level and type of reactivity. Foundations First is often great for dogs who need confidence and calmer choices, but if there’s high risk reactivity or a bite history, we’ll look at a behaviour focused 1:1 plan instead. This is exactly what the discovery call is for.
